1. NORTH INDIAN OCEAN AREA (MALAY PENINSULA WEST TO COAST OF AFRICA):
A. TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY: NONE.
B. TROPICAL DISTURBANCE SUMMARY:
(1) AN AREA OF CONVECTION (INVEST 96A) HAS PERSISTED NEAR
22.4N 66.0E, APPROXIMATELY 412 NM EAST OF MUSCAT, OMAN. ANIMATED
ENHANCED INFRARED SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTS DISORGANIZED, YET
PERSISTENT, DEEP CONVECTION SHEARED WESTWARD FROM THE LOW LEVEL
CIRCULATION (LLC). A 071351Z SSMIS F-17 91GHZ MICROWAVE IMAGE
REVEALS DISORGANIZED, FRAGMENTED DEEP CONVECTION NEAR THE LLC. A
070451Z METOP-A ASCAT PASS SHOWS A DEVELOPING LLC WITH A SWATH OF 20
TO 25 KNOT WINDS ON THE NORTHWEST SIDE OF THE LLC. 96A IS CURRENTLY
IN A FAVORABLE ENVIRONMENT WITH GOOD EQUATORWARD OUTFLOW, LOW (10 TO
15 KNOT) VERTICAL WIND SHEAR, AND WARM (30 TO 31 CELSIUS) SEA
SURFACE TEMPERATURES. GLOBAL MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT THAT 96A
WILL TRACK GENERALLY WESTWARD WITH MINIMAL INTENSIFICATION. MAXIMUM
SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS ARE ESTIMATED AT 15 TO 20 KNOTS. MINIMUM SEA
LEVEL PRESSURE IS ESTIMATED TO BE NEAR 1007 MB. THE POTENTIAL FOR
THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL CYCLONE WITHIN THE NEXT 24
HOURS IS LOW.
