The Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management (MCDEM) has issued a tsunami warning for Eastern coast of North and South Island including the Chatham Islands. It may arrive in the Eastern Coast of the North Island shortly. Move inland or to higher ground immediately. A tsunami is possible. The first wave activity may not be the most significant. Tsunami activity will continue for several hours and the threat must be regarded as real until this warning is cancelled.

以紐西蘭本島或本島近岸來說
本次的地震應該是與2009年7月15日的紐西蘭南島西南近岸地震（Mw 7.8）
並列紐西蘭觀測史上規模最大的地震。

今次主震，各地氣象局／地震局給出的數字也不同。
香港、台灣、日本、韓國未對主震上修，維持Ｍ 7.4
USGS從Mw 7.4上修到Mw 7.8。
EMSC（歐洲）從Mw 7.4上修到Mw 7.9。
中國更是給出M 8.0，成為本年第一個M 8 級的地震。

另外，我自己利用了USGS提供的PGA粗略計算了一下對應的震度
37.18% g ~ 37.41% g 約等於 364.61 ~ 366.87 gal
換算大約是台灣氣象局標準的震度６嗎？
