(2) AN AREA OF CONVECTION HAS PERSISTED NEAR 13.1N 111.6E,
APPROXIMATELY 370 NM SOUTHEAST OF HUE, VIETNAM. ANIMATED
MULTISPECTRAL SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS BUILDING DEEP CONVECTION
AROUND A BROAD AREA OF TROUGHING. THE LATEST ASCAT PASS IN THE AREA
(100247Z) REVEALS TROUGHING ACROSS THE SOUTH CHINA SEA ASSOCIATED
WITH A SURGE IN THE SOUTHWEST MONSOON FLOW. UPPER LEVEL ANALYSIS
REVEALS A MARGINALLY CONDUCIVE ENVIRONMENT WITH DIVERGENT EASTERLY
OUTFLOW AND MODERATE (15 TO 20 KNOTS) VERTICAL WIND SHEAR. SEA
SURFACE TEMPERATURES IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA ARE FAVORABLE FOR
DEVELOPMENT. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS ARE ESTIMATED AT 10 TO
15 KNOTS. MINIMUM SEA LEVEL PRESSURE IS ESTIMATED TO BE NEAR 1009
MB. THE POTENTIAL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL
CYCLONE WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS IS LOW. |
