A weak tropical low lies near 16S 100.5E, well southwest of Christmas Island. It is forecast to move in a westerly direction over the weekend remaining well to the south of Christmas and Cocos Islands.
While the system may strengthen slightly over the weekend, the environment isn't very favourable for development and it is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone. It is likely to move west out of the region on Monday.
